The Senate Standing Committee on Interior on Thursday expressed its resolve to curb terrorism in the country and requested Afghanistan to hand over Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Chief Mulana Fazlullah to Pakistan. Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Interior Rehman Malik requested Afghanistan to handover Mullaha Fazlullah to Pakistan "Pakistan has request Afghanistan in the past to hand over Fazlullah and Faqir Muhammad to Pakistan," he said.
About Safora incident, Malik revealed that an accused arrested by law enforcement agencies in connection with Safora incident, Ishrat, was frequency control in-charge in a cellular company, the second accused was IT expert and their other 11 accomplices were university students. Yousuf Salfi, a member of Daesh, held a meeting with Abuhuraira in a mosque in Gujranwala in which he was nominated Amir of South Punjab. The law enforcement agencies have also arrested 27 other people who also belonging to Daesh, he said.
"Daesh send its members to other countries after imparting training to them in Iraq," he said, adding that Muslim Ummah has turned blind eye toward this serious issue. Hamid Ali Khan, National Co-ordinator (NC) National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA), briefed the committee about the performance of NACTA. "Following the approval of National Action Plan (NAP) country has witnessed significant decline in number of terrorist's attacks," he said.
He said that the law enforcement agencies had arrested 49,000 suspects during 46,185 joint intelligence operations in the various encounters against militants launched following the approval of NAP. NACTA chief further said that around Rs 2.1 billion have been confiscated from various accounts believed to be sent for terror funding and 182 cases have been filed against people involved in terror financing.
He said that 98.5 SIMs have been biometrically verified under NAP and five million have yet to be verified out of total 103 million SIMs. Memorandum of Understanding has been singed with Afghanistan government to provide technical support for mobile towers installed at border, he said. He said that all four provinces had raised their own counter terrorism forces including 6500 personnel in Pubjab, 1760 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1027 in Balochistan and 1000 in Sindh. "Special force consisting of 1,000 commandos is being established in ICT and will cost Rs 1 billion," Hamid said. Senator Shahi Syed said that the law enforcement agencies should informed the nation about the identity of over 40000 people arrested by them during various operations in Karachi.
MQM senator Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi said that the nation and parliament were united against terrorism. Senator Saleh Shah said that FATA should be accepted as part of Pakistan and nation should be informed about the number of innocent people killed in FATA in the war against terrorism.
Rehman Malik said that the committee should be informed about the name, pictures and other details of terrorists killed and arrested during various operation. About Axact scam he said that Axact scam had tarnished the image of the country therefore strict action should be taken against the people involved in it. He praised Ministry of Interior for taking timely action against Axact scam. He said that the leadership of Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) had got Indian passport and committee should be informed about the details of cases registered against Altaf Kalia and Javed Kalia and the of name people financing terrorists through Hundi. Secretary Interior Shahid Khan said that 69 cases had been sent to military courts and 137 executions have been carried out so far in the country. He further said that the implementation of some points of NAP was not satisfactory and the Ministry of Interior was giving full attention to it.
