WASHINGTON: The managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, said Thursday she would deliver a speech Monday in Berlin on world economic challenges.
She made the announcement in a message from her Twitter account that said she would be "speaking in Berlin on Jan 23 about global economic challenges of 2012 and restoring confidence and growth."
The IMF is helping to guide European Union economic policy to prevent widespread financial crises in the eurozone. Lagarde met with the political leaders of Germany and France this month for informal policy discussions.
She plans to make the speech Monday to the German Council on Foreign Relations, a public policy foundation.
The IMF chief announced her plans shortly before meeting Thursday with German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle.
Lagarde also plans to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, from January 27 to January 29.
Westerwelle, who is visiting Washington for a few days, is scheduled to make a speech Friday on the eurozone and to meet with US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
