Punjab Assembly in its 11th session here on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution asking for legislation curbing child marriage. The resolution moved by MPA Uzma Bokhari was debated in house prior to its passing. MPA Bokhari stated that early child marriage was one of the reasons for population uncontrolled surge in the country. The house was chaired by Rana Iqbal.
On Private Members Day a resolution asking government to give full pension to retired government servants who had attained 75 years of age was withdrawn by its mover MPA Waseem Akhtar after was told that measures were being taken in this regard. Another resolution put in the house by MPA Muhammad Ilyas Chinoti regarding Islamic Ideological Council Memo (12)1-2013 for improving English words with reference to Islamic values and legislators was unanimously passed by the house.
A resolution by MPA Nighat Shaikh stating that out of 70 percent women who take admission in medical colleges vide open merit policy hardly 30 percent practice profession. Legislator stated that five-year affidavit for working in government hospitals need to be taken from them. The resolution with an amendment asking federal government to take notice of the situation was unanimously passed. Parliamentary Secretary Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Sajjad Gujjar answering queries about department told the house that under the supervision of TIPA, LDA one Interchange, one underpass and two over head bridges were made in Lahore during 2008-2012.
The Parliamentary Secretary told the house that 'PHA' completed 19 projects in Lahore during period 2011-12. Parliamentary Secretary to a query stated that old sewerage was in order in 10 localities of Jhelum while new sewerage was laid in 15 localities of Jhelum during 2011-2013.
Answering further to a query he stated that the notion that tube wells of Shahdara were not working was not true. He clarified that people of the area were getting clean water from the tube wells installed there. He said a sewerage project was initiated in Sahiwal after getting status of a division in 2012. Parliamentary Secretary said 70 of this project had been completed. Sajjad Gujjar said WASA established 50 clean water filtration plants in Lahore during 2012-13. He said these projects incurred cost of Rs 93.248 million. The house was later adjourned by the chair for Wednesday (today).
