Former Indian football chief Alberto Colaco has been banned for three years by world football governing body FIFA for taking a bribe. Colaco, the former All India Football Secretary General, was found guilty of having "accepted a payment in the context of the elections for the FIFA Executive Committee at the AFC Congress in May 2009" which was won narrowly by Mohamed bin Hammam.
Bin Hammam, former president of the Asian Football Confederation, was banned for life from football after being found guilty of buying votes as part of his failed bid for the FIFA presidency in 2011. The FIFA Ethics Committee, chaired by Hans-Joachim Eckert, banned Colaco from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at national and international level for three years with immediate effect.
