VIENNA: Iran has agreed to a high-level visit by UN nuclear inspectors, most likely in the last week of January, in an attempt to clear up allegations of a covert weapons programme, diplomats said Friday.
The visit led by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief inspector Herman Nackaerts is "likely" to take place on January 28, although it is not yet definite, one Western diplomat told AFP.
Another said the trip, which comes two months after an IAEA report on Iran took suspicions to a new level that Tehran is developing nuclear weapons, would "very likely" be in the last week of this month.
Iran denies seeking atomic weapons, saying its programme is peaceful, but Western countries strongly suspect otherwise and the UN Security Council has slapped four rounds of sanctions on the Islamic republic.
