With soaring prices of essential commodities, the City District Government (CDG) has decided to set up Sasta Bazaars, at various locations in Peshawar, to provide subsidised edible items during the holy month of Ramazan. The decision was taken at a meeting held under the Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Zaheerul Islam in chair here on Monday.
The Sasta Bazaar will be set up at three different locations within next two days, says Zaheerul Islam while talking to this scribe, after the meeting. For this purpose, he informed that Shahi Bagh, University and interior city have been identified to establish Sasta Bazaars there, wherein essential food items would be available to faithful on subsidised rates in the holy month.
Due to delaying in making decision regarding establishment of Sasta Bazaars, retailers and shopkeepers have fully taken advantage and selling edible items at manifold rates, even not implementing the official price list. "We will strictly implement official prices in all retail market to give maximum relief to masses," Zaheer said. He added that they had taken action against more than 57 profiteers and hoarders, and punished them with huge fines along with sending to jail for one month.
Akramullah Khan, a buyer said that the provincial government had failed to give any sort of relief to masses, as prices of essential food commodities are sky-high in the holy month. Is any one who can control this exorbitant price-hike, and aritificial rates of daily use items, he questioned. The Peshawaries demanded of the government to take strict steps for implementation of official rates, in all retail markets and give sort of relief in the holy month.
Zaheer said a raid was conducted on Ashraf road and GT road Peshawar, where several shopkeepers were arrested due to overpricing. He assured the masses that all possible steps would be taken against those people, who are involved in illegal business.
