LISBON: European Union member states will respond in a "firm and united" way to looming US steel and aluminium tariffs against European producers, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Thursday.
"We want to be exempt from these tariffs" which are in "not compatible" with World Trade Organization rules, Merkel said at a joint press conference with Portuguese premier Antonio Costa in Lisbon.
