Deposed Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar started on Tuesday recording his statement in the Avenfield reference, filed against the Sharif family by the National Accountability Bureau.

Nawaz, Maryam Nawaz and her husband Safdar all appeared before the accountability court today, where Judge Muhammad Bashir is heading the corruption cases. After marking their attendance in the court, the father and daughter left the court, local media reported.

Speaking to the media outside the court, the deposed PM Sharif said that the nomination the former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Nasir-ul-Mulk as the caretaker premier should be hailed. He added that Justice Nasir's services as a judge and CJP are commendable.

Referring to the controversy surrounding the book written by former chief of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt General (retd) Asad Durrani, Sharif said that a national inquiry commission should be formed to probe into the issue.

Meanwhile, the father-daughter duo has already recorded their statements pertaining to the Avenfield properties.

Recording her statement on Monday, Maryam claimed that she was never the beneficial owner of Avenfield properties and offshore companies Nielsen and Nescoll. She added the corruption reference filed against her were because she was the daughter of Sharif, which was her only crime and not because she was accused of theft, misconduct or corruption.
