Heatwave in Karachi to last for next six days

Karachi is likely to be hit by a heatwave for the next five to six days, as the temperature will soar to 40°C to 43°C.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a warning, saying that the city will be hit by the heatwave from today onwards, with temperature rising to a blazing 41°C. The PMD has also issued directives to the relevant authorities to take effective measures for the protection from the heatstroke.

The department has urged the authorities to ensure sufficient supply of water and power so that the citizens are not faced by any hardship, especially because it is the holy month of Ramazan. Although hot weather has prevailed in Karachi since last one week, this time the citizens need to take extra precautions as the heatwave is striking the city during the first week of Ramazan.

Along with the sweltering heat, citizens are faced by the persistent power outages and shortage of water supply. On the first day of Ramazan, K-Electric (KE) gifted the citizens with load-shedding in many areas of Karachi during Sehri, local media reported.

The KE, however, assured on Wednesday that the power supply will improve in Karachi by May 20, as the crucial part of Bin Qasim Power Station has been brought from Holland. The experts had begun the installment of  the rotor, which weighed over 41 tonnes.
