ISLAMABAD: Pakistan former Ambassador to US Hussain Haqqani on Monday recorded his statement with the high powered commission probing the memogate.
Haqqani said that he had wrongly been implicated in memo case. He said that he was a scholar and ambassador and used to write articles for local and international newspapers.
Haqqani said The New York Times had once described him as protector of Pakistan. He said he was also awarded with Sitar-e-Imtiaz for effectively representing the country.
Haqqani said Mansoor Ijaz on October 10 wrote a letter in Financial Times regarding memogate. He said that Ijaz wrote in the article that Pakistan's civilian government had sought help from Mike Mullen.
Hussain Haqqani said he had sent his resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari on November 16. He said prime minister accepted his resignation on Nov 22.
He said he had no role in writing and sending memo to Mike Mullen, then US Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.
Haqqani's counsel Zahid Bokhari presented a copy of Mansoor Ijaz's article which published in Financial Times and said he would provide a copy of Haqqani's November 16 letter.
The ex envoy said he didn't know about realty of memo.
