Nawaz may appear before commission today

KARACHI: President, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Nawaz Sharif, who is also a petitioner in the memogate case, may appear before the commission probing the memo scandal, Aaj News reported.

According to the channel, Nawaz Sharif has reached Islamabad, who will appear before the commission on Monday (today).

Wasim Iqbal adds from Islamabad: The judicial commission probing the memogate scandal will hold its proceeding on Monday (today) at Islamabad High Court.

The commission had already issued notices to President Asif Ali Zardari, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif to appear in person or file their statements on Monday.

The commission had earlier summoned DG ISI, General Shuja Pasha, former ambassador to US Hussain Haqqani and American businessmen Mansoor Ijaz, who failed to appear before the commission in its first hearing. They were again summoned to appear on Monday.

Meanwhile, talking to media Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Sunday termed the memogate as 'fasad gate'. He said that Mansoor Ijaz was not a Pakistani citizen and the memo had hurt the sentiments of the nation. He questioned if Mansoor Ijaz had visited Pakistan earlier why he could not come this time?

He further said there should be investigation whether PML-N had contacts with Mansoor Ijaz or not. He asked N-League to tell the nation about Ijaz's conspiracy.

The memo scandal will dominate this week as judicial commission will start its probe from Monday while the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) will meet on Tuesday to continue its own proceedings.

Interestingly, the judicial commission has been given four-week time to complete the probe while PCNS has not been given any deadline to complete it proceeding.
