SHANGHAI: Chinese shares were down slightly in morning trade Monday, despite remarks by Premier Wen Jiabao aimed at boosting market sentiment, dealers said.
The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, was down 0.26 percent, or 5.72 points, at 2,157.68.
Wen told a government meeting Saturday that Beijing will boost confidence in the stock market, the official Xinhua News Agency said, but gave no details.
