Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Sunday staged a protest rally against the new Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO), terming it as a 'black' law. Large number of MQM activists including women took part in the protest demonstration outside Karachi Press Club (KPC) to denounce the new law and delimitation of constituencies.
Addressing the demonstration, Deputy Convenor of MQM Rabita Committee Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqi said that the SLGO 2013 was against the urban areas of the province as Sindh constitutes 60 percent urban population and 40 percent rural population.
"It's a black law which is unacceptable for the urban population. Many wish MQM to boycott elections but party would contest the elections. But if it happens, nobody would be able to contest," he claimed. He termed it a conspiracy to create division between urban and rural areas.
Senior MQM leader Haider Abbas Rizvi said that any law in conflict with Article 140-A was unconstitutional and undemocratic. The MQM leaders said that their peaceful protest would continue unless the black law was not withdrawn.
Dr Sagheer Ahmed said that PPP government wanted to steal the mandate of MQM. He said that Sindh government intended to get its desired results through this 'black' law.
Opposition leader in Sindh Assembly Faisal Sabzwari said MQM was the representative party of a layman, adding that PPP has violated constitution by imposing SLGO 2013. "We have challenged the SLGO 2013 in Sindh High Court and we are hopeful of getting justice from the courts," he added.
PML-N leader Abdul Razaq Rahimo said that PPP was hell bent to pre-poll rigging by imposing SLOGO 2013. He also rejected the delimitation process in Sindh. He demanded of the government to withdraw this Ordinance forthwith. MQM MPA Heer Soho also spoke.
