KARACHI: Governor of Sindh, Muhammad Zubair has called for concerted efforts to help optimize public confidence on police department across the province, particularly in Karachi.

In a meeting with Inspector General of Police (IGP - Sindh), Allah Dino Khowaja at Governor House Monday, he said government accords top priority to the safety of public life and property for which police have to play a crucial role.

"Be it sustainability of law and order situation or eradication of crime there ought to be a mutual trust between citizens and the police force," he said in particular context of Karachi.

Appreciative of the sacrifices rendered by Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) and other law enforcing agencies in restoration of peace in Karachi, he said the ongoing targeted operation in the metropolis will continue so as to maintain the momentum and keep the anti-social elements at bay.

Sindh Governor, however, acknowledged that role of police force can not be ignored and that mutual trust and confidence between cops and citizens have to be enhanced on strong grounds.

"This is prerequisite to strengthen efforts being made against unscrupulous elements," he said.

On the occasion matters related to law and order situation, monitoring at exit and entry points, installation of surveillance cameras at sensitive sites in the metropolis, measures adopted to eliminate street crimes, application of modern technology and capacity building of the police force were explicitly discussed.

Appreciating that marked improvement has been registered in the province as compared to that of 2013, Sindh Governor said this has been manifested through steady surge in social, cultural and business activities in Karachi an also in other parts of the province.

"The growing sense of security among the citizens can be well gauged from their engagement in business as well as cultural activities till late hours," he said

IGP - Sindh briefed the governor about application of modern technology to curb crime and terrorism related incidents in the province.
