Pakistan-origin Sajid Javid appointed as Home Secretary of UK

Pakistan-origin Sajid Javid was appointed on Monday as Home Secretary of United Kingdom, becoming the first home secretary from an ethnic minority background.

The announcement was made in a tweet from Prime Minister Office. The Pakistani-origin Javid’s appointment comes after Amber Rudd's resignation earlier. Rudd resigned after she admitted to Prime Minister Theresa May that she had misled Parliament after it emerged she was fully aware of deportation targets.

A scandal of 'Windrush generation'  had rose over the government's mistreatment of the people from Caribbean, who arrived legally in Britain in the 1950s and 1960s but were struggling to prove their status as they were labeled illegal immigrants.

Javid was the Secretary of State for Communities, Local Government and Housing. The home secretary's old job will be taken by James Brokenshire.

According to The Guardian, Javid's father had moved to Britain from Pakistan in the early 1960s and worked as a bus driver.
