ISLAMABAD: Information Secretary Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that Pakistan Peoples Party believes in politics of tolerance and reconciliation for strengthening democracy in the country.
Talking to APP on Friday, he said, "PPP believed in the politics of reconciliation and tolerance in line with the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto to take country forward on road to progress and prosperity."
He said PPP led coalition government was taking steps for sustainable progress and prosperity by strengthening democratic institutions in the country.
Counting the achievements, he said, the government has announced 7th NFC Award, Aghaaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan and introduced political reforms in Gilgit-Baltistan and FATA.
Kaira mentioned to reconstruction of the Council of Common Interests, increase in allocation of net hydel profit for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, launching of Benazir Income Support Programme to alleviate poverty and increasing gas development surcharge for Balochistan as some of key achievements of the democratic government.
Autonomy announced for Gilgit-Baltistan by the PPP government under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari is the accomplishment of Bhutto's ideal to strengthen the federation.
Kaira said passage of the 18th amendment of the constitution was another milestone to give autonomy to the provinces.
He said the present government of Pakistan Peoples Party took number of steps for the women rights and empowerment during a period of hardships.
