GHDA marks World Tourism Day

Gorakh Hills Development Authority (GHDA), an institution established to develop Sindh's only hill station, organised a seminar and also held a walk to mark World Tourism Day, here on Friday. The seminar was held at the culture department's Mumtaz Mirza Auditorium, which was attended by tourism experts and the officials of the department and GHDA.
Addressing the event as chief guest, Saeed Aiwan, Secretary Tourism, Culture and Antiquities Department, said that Gorakh was the only place in Sindh which was located at an altitude of 5,688 feet above sea level in Khirthar Range, covering an area of 32 to 48 Sq kms. He further said that Gorakh Hills was famous for its pleasant weather and it was a favourite picnic point of the people of Sindh, besides people from other parts of the country and foreigners also visit the area.
He said that most of the people usually lived around Gorakh Hills in summer and in winter they left for Kachho. Rainwater was main source of cultivation in the area, he added. Speaking on the occasion, Director General GHDA Dr Iqbal Saeed Khan said that the development work at the site had been restored. He said that he had paid multiple visits to the site in the last three months to monitor the ongoing work. "The area is very peaceful as during my visits I never experienced any incident of crime neither I came across any local complaining about law and order problem there," he added.
Saeed Khan said that development work had been accelerated and within six months Gorakh Hill station would be made easily accessible for every one. Later, a walk was held from Sindh Secretariat to Karachi Press Club to promote tourism in the area.
