Published Updated

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has paid rich tribute to founder of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

He was talking to mediamen at the Chief Minister House here on Thursday.

Earlier, a cake-cutting ceremony was held at the C.M. House which was attended by provincial ministers as well as the party leaders.

"Today is the birth anniversary of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and a cake cutting ceremony has been performed here in this regard", Qaim Ali Shah remarked.

He said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was a great leader and would be remembered for centuries because of his services, the political acumen and his struggle for the rights of the masses.

Chief Minister pointed out that Bhutto rendered immense sacrifices for the cause of democracy and the betterment and upliftment of the people.

He said that Shaheed Bhutto started politics when there was dictatorship in the country and the politics was considered a `crime'.

At that time Bhutto felt that for the betterment of the masses and for the realization of their due rights, he spurned the then government of President Ayub Khan and the people greeted him with open arms.

Qaim Ali Shah said that Bhutto created awareness among the people from Karachi to Peshawar regarding their due rights, gathered them and formed the PPP.

He said that Bhutto gave a programme for the people and also came up with the constitution which is still in vogue.

Chief Minister said that Bhutto also gave the programme of `Roti, Kapra aur Makan' for the poor and deserving people.

He said that if Bhutto had remained for five more years then there would have been only the democracy in the country.

Qaim Ali Shah said that Bhutto had also rendered a lot of services in the realms of international affairs as well as on the Kashmir issue and forged deep friendly ties with the Peoples Republic of China.

He further stated that Bhutto was a great leader of the international stature.

Chief Minister said that he would not make any comments regarding Bhutto's case in the Supreme Court.
