The Supreme Court(SC) has given 30 days time to government authorities to bring former ambassador to the United States (US) Husain Haqqani back to Pakistan regarding Memogate scandal.

According to local media reports, Director General of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Bashir Ahmed Memon assured the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar that the arrest warrants of Haqqani would be sent to his residence in Karachi and Washington.

Memon informed the SC that in case Haqqani did not appear before the court, he would send legal notice to him through a US lawyer. The CJP warned that the bench will not hear any excuses if Haqqani is not presented before the court after the deadline passes.

Earlier, the three member bench had expressed its disappointment on the government over their steps taken to bring back Haqqani to Pakistan. The bench had summoned secretaries of foreign affairs and interior in person on March 28 (today).

In 2011, Haqqani had allegedly requested US in a memo to help Pakistan civilian government against its military after May 2 raid that had killed Osama bin Laden. The memo had been delivered to a high-ranking official asking for its support in the domestic disruption that had occurred after the raid.

The court proceedings had started after deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had demanded Haqqani's resignation. However, Haqqani, had denied having anything to do with the memo.
