ISLAMABAD: All Pakistan CNG Association has rejected the government's plan to increase price of the fuel, terming the decision against the intersts of Association and consumers.
According to the official sources, the government has planned to jack up price of the CNG by Rs 15 per kg in order to ease burden on the fuel in wake of its growing demand especially in winter season.
The association's Central Chairman Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha said fatal problems such as extreme gas loadshedding, zero gas pressure was a matter of concern for the CNG station owners.
The association's spokesman said meeting was held this week with the Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain who informed the government would increase CNG prices besides closure of CNG supply for one month to Sindh in January and two months for Punjab in January and February to overcome gas shortage in winter season.
He said the Association would establish checking system soon to ensure safety in CNG-run transport, across the country.
He said the CNG commercial and public transport vehicle checking system would work in 100 cities of the country to prevent accidents occurring due to local, sub-standard and un-licensed CNG kits and cylinders.
Meanwhile, the OGRA has asked All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) to immediately stop filling of CNG in all public service vehicles, which do not qualify the laid down standard as per CNG rules.
The authority had called a meeting of APCNGA with respect to current fire related accidents in CNG fitted Public Service Vehicles.
In the meeting, which was attended by APCNGA and senior officers of OGRA, it was pointed out that the main cause of most of fire related accidents was improper CNG fittings, location of cylinders beneath the seats or on roof top from un-authorized roadside workshops. This results in gas leakages, which is the main cause of almost all explosions reported recently, he said.
