KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chapter has called on the government to provide basic facilities to Karachi’s industries, saying the country has the potential to capture a significant share of the global USD400 billion furniture market.

JI Karachi chief Monem Zafar said this Saturday at the second day of Furniture Expo 2026 at the Karachi Expo Centre.

There are big furniture markets in different cities, including Karachi, he said. “If traditional craftsmanship is combined with modern technology, modern designs and international standards, Pakistan’s furniture industry will find huge opportunities abroad.” He added that the exhibition would attract new investment from industrialists, investors and buyers, and help increase the country’s exports.

Citing figures, he said the global furniture market is currently worth about USD400 billion, while Pakistan’s share is only USD8 million to USD12 million.

Zafar described the country’s youth, who make up 65 per cent of the population, as a national asset. He said young people should be trained in modern design and skills and linked with the IT sector, and that small and medium enterprises should be encouraged.
