ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Poland on Monday agreed to strengthen bilateral ties and expand business links, as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for a stronger, long-term partnership between the two countries.

Talking to Tomasz Siemoniak, Poland’s minister and member of the Council of Ministers and coordinator of special services, Prime Minister Sharif said Pakistan wanted to turn its longstanding friendship with Poland into a “robust, long-term, multi-faceted partnership”.

He stressed the importance of high-level exchanges in promoting closer relations and called for greater interaction between the business communities of the two countries, the statement said.

Sharif welcomed Poland’s support for Pakistan under the European Union’s Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) trade arrangement. He expressed confidence in further cooperation across sectors.

The two sides also discussed major regional and international developments, including the situation in the Middle East.

Sharif stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in addressing regional tensions. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region, the statement said.
