ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the sub-committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) was held under the chairmanship of Convener Syed Naveed Qamar, where various audit objections about the Establishment Division from the financial years 2011–12 to 2022–23 were reviewed.

During the meeting, an audit objection regarding unauthorized investments exceeding Rs 3 billion made by the Federal Employees Benevolent and Group Insurance Funds (FEB&GIF) was also taken up. Audit officials informed the committee that unauthorized investments had been made, an inquiry was conducted into the matter, and the case was referred to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

On this occasion, officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Law arrived at the meeting without adequate preparation, drawing strong displeasure from the committee. Syed Naveed Qamar stated that he was briefed on the matter only this morning, whereas over the course of these years, the audit para had been referred multiple times; therefore, the relevant department should have attended the meeting with complete preparation. He remarked that proper Departmental Audit Committee (DAC) meetings were not being conducted.

The committee sent back the officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Law and directed them to attend the next meeting fully prepared on the issue.
