New office-bearers of KCCI felicitated: BMG again proposes representation in policymaking forums
KARACHI: The Chairman of the Businessmen Group (BMG), Zubair Motiwala, has called upon the newly elected office-bearers of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) to translate the strong electoral mandate into tangible results for Karachi’s business community.
He said that responsibility for performance rested not only with the three office-bearers but with the entire Executive Committee and committees’ chairmen of KCCI.
He supported BMG Vice Chairman MianAbrar Ahmed’s proposal for KCCI representation in the policymaking forums, including the Sindh Assembly and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
Addressing the 65th Annual General Meeting of KCCI where Talat Mahmood was announced president, Aslam Pakhali senior vice president and Atif Jamil-ur-Rahman vice president for 2026–28, Motiwala said the election results reflected the collective efforts of KCCI members, markets, industrial associations and the wider business community.
He congratulated the outgoing president Muhammad Rehan Hanif, senior vice president Muhammad Raza and vice president Arif Lakhani for their performance and appreciated BMG members, former office-bearers and supporters for their dedicated efforts.

He emphasized sustained efforts and continuity throughout the two-year term to improve conditions for businesses and the wider community.
Jawed Bilwani said the growing participation of members reflected their strong commitment to KCCI and urged the business community to collectively pursue solutions to Karachi’s infrastructure, traffic and municipal challenges.
Mian Abrar Ahmed congratulated the incoming office-bearers and called for focused efforts to upgrade Karachi’s industrial infrastructure, particularly during the initial phase of the new term. He also proposed pursuing appropriate institutional representation for KCCI at policymaking forums.
Muhammad Tariq Yousuf said the strong election results reflected BMG’s collective efforts and sustained services to the business community.
He appreciated KCCI’s continued engagement with the FBR and other authorities on taxation and customs issues and urged the new office-bearers to maintain continuity and focus on delivering tangible solutions to genuine business problems.
Newly-elected KCCI president Talat Mahmood called for full support of the Chamber’s membership, saying a united business community would give greater strength to KCCI’s voice.
Identifying infrastructure, law and order, traffic, gas and electricity as key challenges, he pledged to work with BMG leadership and relevant authorities to address them.
He said giving priority to Karachi’s voice would be a major focus during the first six months.
Talat Mahmood said strengthening KCCI’s engagement with the FBR would remain a key priority, highlighting the regular interaction between FBR officials and the business community as well as the establishment of the PRAL office in Karachi as important facilitation measures.
He also pledged particular attention to small traders, called for stakeholder consultation before decisions affecting market timings, and emphasized the need to contain energy-related costs, reduce the cost of doing business, increase exports and facilitate foreign investment.
Retiring KCCI president Muhammad Rehan Hanif, in his farewell address, congratulated the incoming office-bearers and expressed gratitude to the BMG leadership for its support during his tenure.
Paying tribute to BMG chairman Zubair Motiwala, Hanif assured the incoming team of his full cooperation and pledged to remain committed to BMG and the Karachi business community, standing with the organization in good and difficult times.
