KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee continued its marginal gain against the US dollar for another week, appreciating 0.03 percent in the inter-bank market.
The local unit closed at 277.16 against the greenback, a gain of Re0.09 from 277.25 it had closed at a week earlier.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb during the previous week said Pakistan was transitioning towards a regulated virtual-assets framework, as the government sought to harness blockchain and tokenisation for cheaper remittances, SME financing, sovereign debt, and broader financial inclusion.
State Bank of Pakistan (SBP)-held foreign exchange reserves increased by USD11 million during the week ended September 18, 2026, reaching USD21.40 billion, according to data released by the central bank.
The country’s total liquid foreign reserves stood at USD26.81 billion as of September 18, including USD21.40 billion held by the SBP and USD5.41 billion held by commercial banks.
Open-market rates
In the open market, the PKR gained 7 paise for buying and lost 10 paise for selling against USD, closing at 278.12 and 279.20, respectively.
Against Euro, the PKR gained 2.44 rupees for buying and 2.23 rupees for selling, closing at 316.43 and 319.49, respectively.
Against UAE Dirham, the PKR lost 7 paise for buying and 4 paise for selling, closing at 75.72 and 76.29, respectively.
Against Saudi Riyal, the PKR lost 7 paise for buying and 5 paise for selling, closing at 74.02 and 74.52, respectively.
