KARACHI: Dawood University of Engineering & Technology (DUET) has taken another significant step towards enhancing student welfare and campus life with the soft launch of its state-of-the-art Sports Complex and newly commissioned Students’ Dormitory at DUET Iqbal Campus.

The soft-launching ceremony was attended by Member Sindh Assembly Engr Adil Askari, Member Sindh Assembly Dr Abdul Basit, a large number of DUET alumni, faculty members and students.

The development of both landmark facilities has been made possible through the untiring efforts and student-centred vision of Vice Chancellor Prof Samreen Hussain. Both projects were completed by the Directorate of Works & Services, DUET, with significant efforts and coordination by Dr Sadam Ali Khichi, Director Students’ Affairs and Security.

The newly completed DUET Sports Complex features a fully developed cricket-cum-futsal ground, integrated with professional running tracks for athletics and fitness training. A dedicated multi-sports court provides facilities for basketball, tennis, badminton, volleyball and netball.

The complex also includes a fully furnished indoor sports room equipped with snooker, hand soccer, ludo, chess, checkerboard, carrom boards and table tennis, providing students with diverse recreational and sporting opportunities.

A well-appointed spectators’ pavilion with seating capacity for more than 100 persons, player enclosures accommodating approximately 18–20 persons with storage facilities, and a digital display for scores and match information further enhance the facility.

Designed with an impressive night-time ambience and floodlighting, the Sports Complex will enable DUET to host inter-departmental and inter-university competitions, tournaments and other campus sporting activities, promoting physical fitness, teamwork and holistic student development.

The newly commissioned DUET Students’ Dormitory provides secure, furnished accommodation for 125 students. The facility includes shared halls equipped with metal-frame bunk beds, mattresses, individual study tables and ergonomic chairs, as well as, single rooms furnished with beds, tables, chairs and lockable storage.

The dormitory provides tiled and lockable toilets, separate shower rooms with hot and cold mixers, fans, LED lighting, tiled flooring and essential electrical and plumbing facilities, along with lounge spaces.

One of its distinctive features is the Rooftop Terrace, designed as a comfortable space for relaxation and social interaction, featuring tiled flooring, cane bistro furniture, green planters, a pergola with rattan lighting and louvered privacy screens. Its illuminated night-time setting provides students with a safe and vibrant recreational environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Abdul Basit appreciated the transformation taking place at the public-sector university. He said that witnessing DUET’s development gave the impression of being at a well-developed private university.

Adil Askari also commended the efforts of the Vice Chancellor Samreen Hussain and appreciated the university’s continued focus on improving its infrastructure and facilities for students.

Speaking at the occasion, Vice Chancellor Samreen said that DUET remained committed to providing students with a supportive, healthy and inspiring educational environment.

She said that modern academic facilities must be complemented by opportunities for sports, recreation, residential life, teamwork and personal development, adding that the newly completed Sports Complex and Dormitory were part of DUET’s continued efforts to facilitate students and enhance their overall university experience.
