ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is at the centre of fresh marriage rumours, with reports claiming he could tie the knot later this year with a woman linked to Liechtenstein.
The claims, circulating on social media, have sparked widespread curiosity in the country, with some versions of the story even suggesting that the alleged bride has connections to European royalty.
Those claims, however, have not been independently verified.
However, the PPP has rejected the reports.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, who also serves as Bilawal’s spokesperson, took to X to dismiss reports concerning the PPP chairman’s engagement or marriage, describing them as “incorrect and unfounded.”
Neither Bilawal nor his family has made an official announcement confirming an engagement, identifying a prospective spouse or announcing a wedding date.
According to the claims circulating online, the alleged bride is from Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein, a small landlocked European state situated between Switzerland and Austria.
The reports have also linked the speculation to a private overseas trip by President Asif Ali Zardari, claiming that he travelled abroad with family members to discuss arrangements for Bilawal’s wedding and possibly finalise a date.
There has been no official confirmation, however, that Zardari’s reported trip was connected to any discussions about Bilawal’s marriage.
The latest speculation has nevertheless revived interest in Bilawal’s previous comments about marriage.
During the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2022, a journalist asked the then foreign minister whether he had plans to marry.
Smiling, Bilawal replied: “Of course, I have plans to marry,” but declined to disclose when he intended to tie the knot.
He had also spoken about marriage in 2016, saying that any future bride would first have to win over his sisters.
“The right candidate will first have to win over the hearts of my sisters,” Bilawal said at the time, adding that gaining their approval would be “a very difficult task for any girl”.
The latest rumours have prompted a mixture of curiosity, humour and speculation online, with the alleged Liechtenstein connection becoming one of the most talked-about elements of the story.
However, there is currently no confirmed engagement, wedding date or officially identified bride.
