Pakistan on Monday strongly condemned the ballistic missile attacks launched by Houthi forces targeting the Makkah and Madinah regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including areas in the vicinity of the holy sites.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan termed the strikes as reprehensible, stating that they constitute a grave violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Foreign Office noted that the targeting of these regions demonstrates a blatant disregard for the sanctity of Islam’s holiest sites and civilian safety.
Reiterating its firm position, Islamabad expressed unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed its commitment to the Makkah Alliance. Pakistan pledged steadfast support for the security, stability, and defence of Saudi Arabia, emphasizing its commitment to the protection of the Two Holy Mosques against any external aggression or threat.
The Foreign Office also commended the vigilance and efficiency of the Saudi air defence forces for successfully countering the missile strikes.
The development comes a couple of days after the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen announced that it had intercepted two missiles fired by the Houthis towards Taif and Yanbu, in the kingdom’s west.
It came shortly after Riyadh’s civil defense agency broadcast warnings of “potential danger” for four western regions, including Taif and Yanbu as well as Makkah, home to Islam’s holiest city, and Jeddah.
