ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has stepped up its diplomatic push to break the stalemate in the ongoing US-Iran conflict, with Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir holding extensive talks with Iran’s top leadership focused on preventing further escalation, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and securing an expedited end to the conflict.

Field Marshal Munir, accompanied by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, concluded a day-long visit to Iran as part of Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate dialogue and explore a negotiated settlement aimed at bringing an enduring end to regional instability, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday.

During the visit, the Field Marshal called on Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, Mohsen Rezaei, Representative of the Supreme Leader on the Supreme National Security Council, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.

According to the ISPR, comprehensive discussions focused on measures to prevent further escalation, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the expedited termination of the conflict.

The two sides also exchanged views on the broader regional security situation and discussed ways to reach a negotiated settlement to outstanding disputes.

The Iranian leadership appreciated Pakistan’s “constructive role and sincere efforts” towards facilitating dialogue, de-escalation and a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

The high-level engagements underscored Islamabad’s continuing diplomatic efforts to create space for negotiations between Tehran and Washington and prevent the conflict from triggering further instability across the region.

Upon his arrival in Iran, Field Marshal Munir was received by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and other senior Iranian civil and military officials.
