ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have launched their first joint military exercise, “Karakoram 2026,” in Korla, Xinjiang, aimed at strengthening counterterrorism cooperation, enhancing operational coordination and improving combat capabilities between the two armed forces.
The opening ceremony of the exercise was held in Korla, where troops from both countries began specialised training in drone operations, detection and engagement of moving targets, and precision firing.
The exercise also focuses on long-range marksmanship, joint command operations and practical combat drills to improve interoperability between the two militaries.
During the exercise, Pakistani and Chinese troops exchanged experiences and operational expertise in counterterrorism, while Pakistan Army personnel also familiarised themselves with Chinese weapon systems.
The joint military exercise reflects the growing defence cooperation between Pakistan and China, with a particular emphasis on strengthening operational readiness, counterterrorism capabilities and coordination in joint military operations.
