LAHORE: Secretary Agriculture Punjab Shakeel Ahmad Mian on Friday directed the department to introduce special packages at the ‘Model Agriculture Mall’ set up for the convenience of farmers.

He also proposed for the provision of rental agricultural machinery services according to regional needs. He reviewed modern agricultural machinery being used for farm mechanization as well as the performance of AMRI.

The Secretary was on a special visit to Multan. During his visit, he chaired a meeting to review the cotton crop and visited cotton fields, the Model Agriculture Mall and Agricultural Mechanization Research Institute (AMRI) Multan to review various matters.

Additional Secretary Task Force Agriculture Muhammad Shabbir Ahmed Khan, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Asif Ali, Special Secretary Agriculture South Punjab Sarfraz Hussain Magsi, Deputy Secretary Agriculture (Planning) Kashif Bashir, Directors General of Agriculture Department Punjab Abdul Hameed, Naveed Asmat Kahloon and Dr. Aamir Rasool, Dr. Sajid-ur-Rehman, Chief Executive PARB Dr. Abid Mahmood, Syed Hassan Raza and Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Bandesha attended the meeting. Consultant Agriculture Department Dr. Muhammad Anjum Ali, along with Directors and Deputy Directors Agriculture (Extension), participated through video link.

A detailed briefing was given on the current situation of cotton crop, production and measures being taken for its revival. It was informed that the overall situation of the cotton crop in Punjab is satisfactory.

Addressing the meeting, Secretary Agriculture Punjab Shakeel Ahmad Mian directed that the strategy formulated for the revival of cotton must be implemented in letter and spirit.

He said the development of the agriculture sector and prosperity of farmers are among the government’s top priorities. The benefits of the farmer-friendly initiatives of Chief Minister Punjab are being delivered transparently to farmers at their doorsteps.

Shakeel Ahmad Mian directed the AMRI to take effective measures to introduce modern agricultural machinery suited to local requirements through reverse engineering. He said promoting modern agricultural machinery can make farming practices more advanced, faster and more efficient.
