- Airspace restriction also applies to aircraft operated, owned or leased by Indian airlines/operators, including military flights
Pakistan extended its airspace restriction on Indian-registered aircraft until September 24, 2026, continuing a ban imposed due to heightened tensions that has cost Indian airlines millions.
- Extended duration of Pakistan's airspace restriction.
- Financial impact on Indian airlines from rerouting.
- Origin of the ban amid India-Pakistan tensions.
Pakistan extended on Wednesday the existing airspace restriction on Indian-registered aircraft until September 24, 2026.
“Airspace restriction also applies to aircraft operated, owned or leased by Indian airlines/operators, including military flights,” as per a notification.
Pakistan had initially imposed the airspace restrictions amid heightened tensions with India, following the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in 2025.
The restrictions has so far cost millions of dollars as Indian airlines are compelled to use alternative routing, typically adding flight time and fuel costs to journeys between India and destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
The restriction has since been extended multiple times and the latest extension indicates that the restrictions will remain in place for another month.
Last month, Pakistan had extended its ban on Indian-registered aircraft from using its airspace until August 24.
