PARIS: European Union soft wheat exports in the 2026/27 season totalled 1.01 million metric tons by August 9, up from 0.70 million tons a week earlier but down 57percent year on year, European Commission data showed on Tuesday.

Lithuania was the largest EU soft wheat exporter with 292,504 tons, followed by Romania with 225,222 tons, Bulgaria with 162,598 tons, Germany with 139,668 tons and Poland with 95,785 tons.

EU barley exports had reached 0.36 million tons, up from 0.31 million tons the previous week but down 81percent year on year. However, the commission said grain export data was incomplete for France since the beginning of calendar year 2024, for Bulgaria and Ireland since the start of the 2023/24 marketing year and for Greece since January this year.

In imports, flows of maize into the EU so far in 2026/27 had reached 1.58 million tons, up 0.32 million tons from the previous week and 25percent above the volume a year earlier.
