ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Monday said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had secured a simple majority in the second phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, urging political opponents to accept the public mandate instead of levelling allegations.
Speaking to the media, Tarar said the people of AJK had voted in favour of the PML-N based on its governance, development record and public service.
He said the party’s victory was difficult for its opponents to accept, despite what he described as a vibrant and competitive electoral process in which voters participated enthusiastically.
The minister said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had set a positive democratic precedent by congratulating the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on its victory in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections, adding that all political parties should demonstrate tolerance, patience and democratic maturity.
Responding to allegations made by Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Tarar dismissed them as baseless and challenged critics to produce evidence in support of their claims.
He said political disagreements and criticism were part of democracy, but insisted that allegations should be backed by credible proof.
Tarar maintained that the PML-N’s victory in the AJK elections should be acknowledged and respected, adding that the party’s leadership had consistently prioritised the development and progress of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
