ISLAMABAD: Gilgit-Baltistan Police have arrested two suspects wanted in connection with the killing of three people in Kharmang district last week, officials said on Monday.

According to police, the suspects had been absconding since the incident and were arrested during an operation in the high-altitude Fultuks area of Gultari tehsil.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Gultari police station’s Station House Officer (SHO), Aman Ali, after police acted on intelligence regarding the suspects’ whereabouts.

The suspects were taken into custody and, following initial investigation, will be produced before a court in connection with the triple murder case.

The shooting, which claimed three lives, triggered widespread grief and concern across the Kharmang region.

Residents welcomed the arrests, with community elders and civil society representatives commending the police for tracing the suspects.

Some residents also urged the Gilgit-Baltistan government and the Inspector General of Police to recognise the efforts of the police team involved in the operation.

Police did not immediately release further details about the arrests. The case related to the Kharmang killings on July 16, which allegedly stemmed from a dispute over pasture land and left three people dead and several others injured.
