ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday said Pakistan is poised to take on key roles in forthcoming multilateral forums, including chair positions in regional organisations, reflecting what he described as growing international confidence in the country’s diplomatic engagement.

Speaking in National Assembly, Dar also laid before the House a copy of a three-page US-Iran agreement, informing lawmakers that the second phase of the process would involve technical-level discussions on nuclear-related matters, sanctions relief, frozen assets and regional issues including Lebanon.

He said Pakistan’s diplomatic standing was evident from its active participation in regional and international platforms, including meetings of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and ECO cooperation frameworks.

He added that Pakistan was increasingly hosting and co-chairing international events, including forthcoming OIC women-focused conferences and SCO meetings.

He said these developments underscored Pakistan’s “enhanced diplomatic profile” and its continued engagement in global and Muslim world affairs.

Referring to regional strategic developments, including defence and security understandings with friendly countries, the foreign minister said Pakistan’s foreign policy remained guided by cooperation, stability and regional connectivity. He reiterated that Islamabad was pursuing economic integration initiatives, including cross-border trade and market access with neighbouring countries, particularly Iran.

He further said Pakistan had consistently advocated peaceful engagement in regional disputes and supported dialogue-based solutions aimed at strengthening economic ties, expanding trade, and promoting regional stability through structured cooperation frameworks.

Dar credited recent diplomatic activity to coordinated efforts by the government, the Foreign Office, and national leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed AsimMunir, saying these reflected increasing international trust in Pakistan’s constructive role.

Briefing the House on the US-Iran agreement, he said Pakistan had made “extensive diplomatic efforts” during a period of heightened tensions and had acted as a mediating channel by maintaining contact with international counterparts and facilitating dialogue. He said meetings were held in Islamabad and Riyadh, adding that Pakistan’s role focused on de-escalation at a time of heightened regional uncertainty. He described Pakistan as a neutral facilitator, saying confidentiality was maintained throughout the process and that sensitive material was not shared publicly or with third parties without mutual consent.
