Pakistan, US discuss expanding maritime cooperation and investment opportunities

Pakistan and the United States have discussed expanding cooperation in the maritime sector, with a focus on investment, trade, port development, and the blue economy, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.
The discussion took place during a meeting between Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker in Islamabad.
The minister highlighted the strategic importance of Pakistan’s ports and coastal resources, inviting American investors to explore opportunities in maritime infrastructure, shipping, logistics and port-related services. He said the government was committed to creating a business-friendly environment and welcomed greater US participation in the country’s growing blue economy.
Both sides also discussed strengthening port infrastructure, improving logistics networks and enhancing connectivity to facilitate regional and international trade. They agreed in principle to establish a joint working group aimed at promoting coordination and expanding bilateral engagement in the maritime sector.
Baker reaffirmed Washington’s interest in deepening economic cooperation with Pakistan and exploring collaboration in maritime development, the blue economy and sustainable development. She also acknowledged Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing their commitment to enhancing cooperation in maritime affairs, trade, and investment and identifying new opportunities to support sustainable economic growth.
