Dar discusses ‘peace deal’ with Turkish FM

ISLAMABAD: Amidst the reports suggesting the possibility of a peace deal between Iran and the United States in the near future, Pakistan and Turkiye have welcomed “the encouraging progress towards an understanding” between the two sides.

In this context, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar telephonically spoke to Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, said an official statement on Sunday. “The two leaders exchanged views on the evolving regional situation and welcomed the encouraging progress towards an understanding between the United States and Iran,” the statement said.

“They expressed hope that these positive developments would pave the way for lasting peace and stability in the region. Both agreed to remain in close contact on further developments.”

Previously, Dar had spoken to the foreign ministers of Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt to discuss the evolving situation in the Middle East.

Earlier on Saturday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had stated that the finalisation of the peace deal between Iran and the US was expected “in the next 24 hours.”

However, till the filing of this report on Sunday night, there was no indication to suggest that the deal was being reached within the time period mentioned by PM Sharif.

“We are closer to a peace deal than ever before. With finalisation likely expected in the next 24 hours, Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the peace deal immediately after, followed by technical level talks next week,” the PM posted on X on Saturday.
