LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed authorities to ensure foolproof security arrangements across the province during ‘Chand Raat’ and Eid-ul-Azha holidays, with strict implementation of security SOPs at Eid congregations, markets, and sensitive locations.

Chairing a meeting to review the Eid security arrangements here on Sunday, the chief minister ordered installation of metal detectors and walkthrough gates at the Eid prayer venues and directed authorities to enhance surveillance and patrolling in crowded areas.

The CM instructed assistant commissioners to hold meetings with religious scholars and brief them on the Punjab government’s security and cleanliness arrangements for the Eid.

CM Maryam Nawaz directed officials to ensure extraordinary security measures at sensitive places and ordered deployment of additional police personnel, including lady police officers, in markets on the Chand Raat. She also directed authorities to ensure real-time monitoring through the Safe City system for effective security operations during the holidays.

The CM ordered strict enforcement of a ban on camps set up by banned organisations for collecting sacrificial hides and directed district police officers (DPOs) to personally visit such areas to ensure compliance. She further directed authorities to curb dissemination of hate material on social media and other platforms and ordered strict action against one-wheeling, hooliganism, aerial firing and display of weapons during the Eid holidays.

During the briefing, Home Secretary Ahmed Javed Qazi informed the meeting that Eid congregations would be held at 38,507 places across the province. He said Section 144 had been imposed to ban roasting of “siri paye” at public places, while action would also be taken against those throwing animal waste and remains into drains and public areas.

The meeting was also informed that a complete ban on aerial firing and public display of weapons during the Eid-ul-Azha would be strictly enforced across Punjab.
