LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday said the protection of forests and wildlife was essential for maintaining ecological balance and ensuring the survival of life on Earth.

In her message on the International Day for Biological Diversity, the CM said biodiversity formed the basis of life on the planet and preserving the natural environment was a shared national responsibility.

She said effective and sustainable measures were being taken in the province for the protection of endangered species and conservation of the natural ecosystem.

Maryam Nawaz said a special force and helpline had been made operational to prevent illegal hunting. She added that, for the first time in Punjab, women had also been inducted into the regular wildlife force for the protection and care of wildlife.

The CM said the Wildlife Helpline 1107 had been activated for complaints and assistance, adding that modern systems and GPS trackers had also been introduced for the first time for wildlife monitoring and census operations.

She stressed that creating public awareness about the importance of natural resources and preventing environmental degradation was imperative.

Moreover, the CM thanked the people of PP-83 Khushab following the unopposed victory of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Sardar Zafar Abbas Baloch in the by-election.

Congratulating the successful candidate and voters of the constituency, the CM expressed gratitude to the people of Khushab for their support.

The CM said the unopposed victory in the PP-83 by-election had reaffirmed the public popularity of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

She said the journey of public service under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif would continue.

The CM further stated that the PML-N government had set a record for launching the maximum number of public welfare and development projects within the shortest period of time.

Furthermore, the CM expressed sorrow over the death of senior journalist Amir Mateen’s brother.

She extended her heartfelt condolences and sympathies to Amir Mateen and the bereaved family over the loss.
