ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday praised China’s role in promoting peace and stability across South Asia and the Middle East, while reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to regional harmony and multilateral cooperation.

Speaking to a visiting Chinese delegation led by Cai Dafeng, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress, Sharif highlighted the enduring friendship between the two countries, marking the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

“Over the past 75 years, Pakistan and China have forged a unique bond anchored in mutual trust and strategic alignment on bilateral and regional issues,” he said.

The prime minister emphasised the significance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in transforming Pakistan’s socio-economic landscape.

He pledged full support for the next phase of the initiative, which will focus on agriculture, information technology, industry, and the mining sector.

“CPEC has been a game-changer for Pakistan’s development, and we are resolutely committed to its continued success,” Sharif noted.

Sharif also conveyed greetings to President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and the Chinese people on the occasion, reiterating Pakistan’s support for China’s core interests and expressing gratitude for Beijing’s backing of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He added that he looked forward to his upcoming official visit to China.

Dafeng reciprocated the warm welcome and greetings, affirming China’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Pakistan.

“China will continue to support Pakistan and enhance our close co-operation to build a China-Pakistan Community with a Shared Future,” he said, underscoring Beijing’s support for Pakistan’s role in regional peace efforts.

The meeting highlighted the “ironclad brotherhood” between the two nations, which leaders described as a cornerstone of stability, development, and security in the region.

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch also attended the meeting.
