KARACHI: The All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association has announced it would stand firmly with the Federal Investigation Agency in acting against smuggling, money laundering, corruption, and other financial crimes that harm the national economy.
The pledge came during a meeting between an association delegation led by President Qasim Shikarpuri and the Director of FIA Karachi Zone on May 16, 2026. The delegation, representing jewellers and traders of Sarafa Bazaar Karachi, met the FIA chief to discuss matters related to a recent operation in the market, a statement by the association said.
The FIA Karachi Director received the delegation warmly and listened patiently to their concerns. These included questions about the procedure of the recent action and the conduct of certain officials seen in video clips circulating on social media. Each point was discussed in detail, to the satisfaction of the delegation.
The association noted with appreciation that the FIA leadership had, on its own initiative and before the meeting, already taken notice of the conduct in question. The concerned officer was suspended and a formal inquiry was initiated. The delegation described this swift and transparent response as a sign of institutional maturity and commended the professional and fair approach of the FIA Karachi Director.
The association made it clear that the jewellery trade of Karachi stands with the FIA against smuggling, money laundering, corruption, and other financial crimes. It stated that the vast majority of jewellers and bullion traders in Karachi are law-abiding professionals who contribute honestly to the documented economy.
It is in their own interest, the association said, that the few law-breaking elements are brought to justice. Smuggling and undocumented trade not only damage the state of Pakistan but also create an uneven playing field for legitimate businesses. The association therefore assured the FIA of its full cooperation and support in eliminating such elements.
In response, the FIA Karachi Director assured the delegation that the protection of legitimate traders and their lawful businesses would be ensured at all costs. Action, he said, would only be taken against those involved in illegal activities, based on verified evidence and legal requirements. He added that the doors of the FIA would remain open to the business community for any genuine complaint.
Both sides agreed to maintain continuous and constructive contact going forward. They expressed a shared resolve to work towards a Karachi market where honest trade is protected and financial crime finds no shelter.
The association thanked the FIA Karachi Director and his team for addressing the matter in a timely, courteous, and serious manner. It reaffirmed its commitment to stand alongside the FIA in the shared goal of serving the country.
