Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos and Marka-e-Haq: Senate pays homage to security apparatus, people
ISLAMABAD: The Upper House of the Parliament has paid homage to the security apparatus as well as the people of Pakistan “for their unparalleled sacrifices, courage and determination in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty, security and national dignity,” during last year’s military conflict between Pakistan and India.
“Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos and Marka-e-Haq reflected the professional excellence, strategic acumen and unwavering resolve of the Armed Forces of Pakistan in foiling the enemy’s malicious designs,” read a resolution unanimously passed by the Senate in the maiden sitting of its 361st session on Thursday.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry presented the resolution, on the first anniversary of the military conflict between Pakistan and India, which received the nod from the legislators from both the sides of the aisle.
The Senate paid homage to “all martyrs and ghazis of the Armed Forces, who sacrificed their lives in defence of the motherland.”
It also paid homage to the “innocent civilian martyrs, who lost their lives in incidents of enemy aggression and terrorism, while expressing complete solidarity with their families.”
The House reaffirmed that the entire Pakistani nation “stands shoulder to shoulder with its Armed Forces and that no compromise will be made on the defence, integrity and stability of Pakistan.”
The resolution also appreciated the role of all political parties and the media.
The Senate urged the international community to play its role in ensuring peace, stability and respect for international laws in the region, and to discourage actions that escalate tensions in South Asia.
Through another resolution, moved by Interior State Minister Tallal Chaudhry, the House extended the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026 for a further 120-day period.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Parliamentary Leader in Senate Sherry Rehman slammed the government’s anti-encroachment operation in Bari Imam, Malpur and the adjoining areas of the federal capital.
“The people living in the slums of Bari Imam, Malpur and the related areas have been subjected to inhuman treatment,” she said, speaking on a calling attention notice she moved regarding the alleged forced eviction of the “residents of Bari Imam area Islamabad by the police without any resettlement or rehabilitation arrangements.”
“The government provides alternate accommodation to the slum dwellers before dislodging them, from any area. This principle is followed across the globe,” she said.
“The elites have occupied certain lands but no action is being taken against them,” the senator said, in an implied yet obvious reference to the One Constitution Avenue project controversy.
She demanded that the slum dwellers be dealt with dignity and respect instead of coercion and intimidation.
The state interior minister responded that the anti-encroachment operation was continuing without any discrimination.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Parliamentary Leader in Senate Barrister Ali Zafar demanded to be allowed to meet former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife in jail.
“They both underwent eye surgeries,” he said, adding that the matter be referred to the Senate’s human rights panel.
Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Rana Sana Ullah responded that the PTI should adopt a legal course in order to be allowed to see Khan and his spouse in jail.
In protest, the PTI senators staged a walkout from the House.
The Senate was adjourned till today (Friday).
