LAHORE: Steps are being taken to deal with the expected heat wave and an awareness campaign is being launched among the citizens. With the cooperation of the Urban Unit and PDMA, progress on the survey of the populations along the rivers is progressing at a rapid pace.
This was revealed in a meeting held at PDMA Head Office under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister and Chairman Cabinet Committee for Disaster Management Khawaja Salman Rafique. DG PDMA Umar Javed, DG Punjab Land Record Authority Ikram Ahmed and other officers including Urban Unit officials attended the meeting.
A detailed briefing was given in the meeting about the Mawara survey. The second phase of the survey along the Sutlej and Indus rivers is underway.
The meeting reviewed in detail the issues of dealing with urban flooding and riverine floods, the losses of the previous year and future preparations.
Khawaja Salman Rafique said on this occasion that the PDMA is fully prepared to deal with the floods. 100 percent of the losses of the flood victims in Punjab have been compensated at a cost of about Rs 50 billion. PDMA and the Urban Unit have been directed to complete the survey. The working group will have to play an important role in this regard. It has also been directed to ensure de-silting before the upcoming monsoon season, he said.
