ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal directed the authorities to prepare concrete proposals regarding cold chain development within five days.

The minister said this while chairing a weekly meeting of the National Price Monitoring Committee (NPC) here on Friday. The meeting reviewed the current trends in prices of essential commodities across the country.

Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the need to establish cold chain infrastructure in the poultry sector to ensure long-term price stability. He directed authorities to prepare concrete proposals regarding cold chain development within five days.

Speaking during the meeting, the minister expressed satisfaction that fertilizer prices have remained stable despite global economic pressures, calling it a positive development for the agricultural sector. He noted that government measures are gradually helping to stabilize inflation.

During the briefing, officials informed the committee that transport fares have not increased, while poultry prices have returned to pre-Gulf conflict levels, providing relief to consumers.

The minister also called for strict action against the widespread availability of substandard ghee and other food items in rural areas, stressing the importance of ensuring quality and safety for consumers. He urged all provincial and federal institutions to remain vigilant in maintaining price stability and directed the relevant authorities to ensure adequate stocks of essential commodities nationwide.

Ahsan Iqbal further appreciated the performance of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics and provincial governments for their role in weekly price monitoring and data reporting.
