LAHORE: Punjab has introduced a mandatory online attendance system for all government schools, requiring both students and teachers to mark their presence digitally.
According to the new directive, anyone who does not record their attendance through the system will be marked absent.
Officials have warned that schools failing to regularly update attendance data on the School Information System will face disciplinary action. District education CEOs have been directed to ensure complete compliance with data entry requirements.
The education secretary has also raised concerns about delays in uploading student admissions and attendance records, stressing the importance of maintaining accurate and complete data.
Authorities have set April 20, 2026, as the deadline to update all records. Any incomplete or inaccurate submissions may lead to action under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline, and Accountability Act.
Monitoring teams will carry out surprise inspections, and head teachers will be held accountable for any inconsistencies found.
This move is part of wider reforms aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and digital record management in Punjab’s public school system.
