“What is the first lesson that a politician must learn?”

“How to….no that’s not relevant anymore.”

“What were you going to say?”

“Well that the will of the people who elected you not only be acknowledged but also determine policy.”

“Right that the new definition of democracy? What about a totalitarian state?”

“Totalitarian governments are now not only democratic but also globalists and…”

“True, too true anyway I go back to my question what is the first lesson that a politician must learn?”

“How about assess ground realities rather than ideology…”

“Nope sometimes ideology brings a people together…..”

“Nationalism is an extremely powerful driver of public sentiment…”

“You need a war to truly raise the volume on that sentiment to fever pitch.”

“I agree the Iranians were coming on the streets in droves and the US and Israeli bombs were falling….”

“And the Israelis were in their shelters!”

“Remember Shaw, the great British dramatist, said in Arms and the Man: that to win by charging on a horse into enemy artillery fire was winning the war the wrong way – the rounds of ammunition were duds and…”

“Yeah, yeah, I get it but anyway what each politician irrespective of which ever system of government he operates within is to have a fall guy for all decisions that turn out wrong.”

“Yeah Parvez Rashid lost his job as Minister of Information and to date he has the role of Trainer with maybe the perks but not any portfolio….”

“.. would you place his boss, Nawaz Sharif in the same boat – you know the fall guy….”

“Move on, I was thinking more about Pete Hegseth, his defence of the war is a tad, how can I put it? Souring with the American public which has to be rectified as mid-term elections are due and if the Republicans lose then President Trump reckons he will be impeached and..”

“I would offer the services of our Defence Minister – the guy has blown hot and cold for his entire political life….”

“Hegseth’s political life began recently….”

“All the more reason he can learn from our very experienced Defence Minister….”

“But our Defence Minister can never be technically labelled as a Minister for War so…”

“That’s the lesson to be learned by Hegseth – you can be the fall guy if you assume the title of Secretary of War but not if you keep the title of Minister of Defence.”

“Long live the Pakistani Minister of Defence.”

“Indeed, I hear he has not been issued a pass for Blue Area during the US-Iran talks…”

“Look at the glass as half full: his portfolio is not under threat.”

“That’s certainly true.”
