LAHORE: The Lahore district administration has arrested eight shop owners, sealed several shops, and imposed fines totalling Rs520,000 for violating the Punjab government’s commercial timing regulations.

According to the administration on Friday, a rigorous operation has been launched across the city to strictly enforce the energy-saving and austerity measures established by the Punjab government. Assistant Commissioners, along with enforcement teams, carried out several operations in their respective tehsils, including Model Town, Shalimar, Allama Iqbal Town, Cantonment, City, Nishtar, Wagah, and Ravi.

During this campaign, 26 violations were reported in the Model Town tehsil, where four well-known restaurants and a cafe were immediately sealed in the G-1 Market for violating regulations. In total, 21 shops were sealed, and significant fines were imposed.

Similarly, during the action in Shalimar tehsil, three individuals were arrested along with sealing properties; also, 10 shops were sealed at Thokar in Allama Iqbal Town tehsil, 10 shops in City tehsil and 10 shops on Bahadurabad Road in Nishtar tehsil for timing violations. In Raiwind tehsil, four shops were sealed, and five individuals were taken into custody for violating the regulations.

Commenting on the crackdown, Deputy Commissioner Lahore Captain Muhammad Ali Ijaz (R) clarified that the aim of austerity measures is to protect national resources, and no compromise will be made on the compliance of commercial timings.
