While chairing the cabinet meeting a day after a two-week ceasefire was announced between the US and Iran, brokered by Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the country “has changed forever” as he thanked the leadership of the US and Iran for accepting his request for a ceasefire.

“On record, I would like to thank the leadership of the US and Iran for accepting my request for a ceasefire,” the premier said.

“Pakistan has changed forever, from Karachi to Peshawar,” he said.

The development comes after a two-week ceasefire was announced between the US and Iran, brokered by Pakistan.

The premier appreciated the efforts of the political and military leadership for playing their role in mediation between the US and Iran.

He also commended the role of other countries, including China, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Egypt, and Qatar.

Delegations from the US and Iran would visit Pakistan on Friday for talks aimed at a peaceful settlement to the war in the Middle East, PM Shehbaz announced.

“A ceasefire is the first step. But our destination is lasting peace,” he said.
