EOBI officer held

Published Updated

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Lahore Zone, has arrested an official of the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 100,000 from a complainant.

According to FIA Inspector Waqar Awan, the arrest was carried out by the Anti-Corruption Circle Lahore following a complaint filed by a citizen. The accused, identified as Sher Ahmed Khan, was serving as an Executive Officer at the EOBI office in Garden Town, Lahore.

The complainant alleged that the officer had demanded illegal gratification in exchange for performing a legitimate official task. Acting on the complaint, the FIA team laid a trap and apprehended the accused red-handed while allegedly receiving Rs 100,000 from the complainant. Officials stated that the bribe was being taken for processing a lawful matter, highlighting ongoing concerns about corruption in public service institutions.

Following the arrest, the FIA registered a case against the suspect under relevant anti-corruption laws. The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigations are underway to determine whether additional individuals were involved or if similar complaints exist. Inspector Waqar Awan reiterated the agency’s commitment to eliminating corruption and urged the public to report such incidents to ensure transparency and accountability in government departments. Authorities described the action as a significant anti-corruption operation.

Sources claimed that the arrested individual, Sher Ahmed Khan, is originally an employee of the Senate of Pakistan and was working on deputation in EOBI Multan. He was later posted in the EOBI Lahore Region South, allegedly on the recommendation of Deputy Director General Maratab Ali Dogar.

It was further alleged that Maratab Ali Dogar had previously been named as a co-accused in a corruption case during his tenure as Regional Director, Sheikhupura. In that case, another accused, Deputy Director Mudasir Ramzan, was reportedly caught accepting a substantial bribe in exchange for granting an illegal favour to an industrialist. Sources claimed that the officer who reported the alleged corruption was transferred, while both the accused officials were later promoted to higher positions.
